The Indians will have all their players back that were up for arbitration, as today the team came to terms with All-Star shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera.
The two sides have come to terms on a one-year deal that is worth $4.55 million. As far as getting a long term deal done, GM Chris Antonetti said Friday the interest is still there.
“If there’s something that makes sense, we will certainly explore it,” Indians GM Chris Antonetti said. “We are pleased we were able to get a one-year done.”
Cabrera had his best season in 2011, as he hit 25 home runs and drove in 92 RBIs, both career highs. He also hit .273 stole 17 bases.
Not only did he earn his first All-Star appearance, he also earned a Silver Slugger Award and the Indians Heart and Hustle Award. Cabrera had filed for $5.2 million in arbitration, while the Tribe came back with an offer of $3.75 million.
“I think in the end what’s most important for us, was being able to arrive at a number that is good for us,” Antonetti said.
The signing means that the team has not had to go to arbitration with a player since 1991.
